Unreliable audits resulting from Satyam’s internal control failures could make U.S. companies uneasy about their own internal financial reporting controls. Perkins Coie Partner and India practice Chair Shaalu Mehra commented on the flawed audits in a recent Compliance Week article titled “Satyam Scandal Raises Questions on Vendors.” "We know now the audits performed for Satyam can’t be relied on,” Mehra said. “Presumably what happened at Satyam was a failure of internal control. That raises a question about whether its SAS 70 reports can be relied on by customers.”
