Samuel A. Thumma Appointed to American Law Institute Project

PHOENIX (August 22, 2005) Perkins Coie Brown & Bain Partner Samuel A. Thumma has been appointed as an Adviser to the American Law Institute's Restatement (Third) of Torts: Liability for Economic Loss project. Over the next several years, the project will focus on economic torts to provide assistance to courts and practitioners in addressing difficult legal issues in such cases. Thumma, a partner in Perkins Coie's national litigation practice group, works in the firm's Phoenix office.

Founded in 1923 and headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the American Law Institute's mission is "to promote the clarification and simplification of the law and its better adaptation to social needs, to secure the better administration of justice, and to encourage and carry on scholarly and scientific legal work." Members include judges, attorneys and legal scholars from the United States and foreign countries, selected on the basis of professional achievement and demonstrated interest in the improvement of the law.

Thumma, who joined Brown & Bain, P.A. in 1993 and Perkins Coie Brown & Bain P.A. effective July 1, 2004, concentrates his practice on commercial litigation defense, with a current emphasis on professional liability, general tort and contract litigation, and client counseling. He is part of the firm's national litigation practice group, which is one of the most active in the country. The group is made up of 290 litigators who represent plaintiffs and defendants across the spectrum of business and other disputes, from relatively simple contract matters to highly complex cases in such technical areas as class action, product liability, antitrust, intellectual property, securities and employment.
