Perkins Coie Names Laura Whitaker Chair of the Firm's Executive Committee
Press Release
SEATTLE (March 18, 2008) – The firm is proud to announce that Laura Whitaker has been elected chair of the firm's Executive Committee. Whitaker succeeds Robert Bauer, current chair of the firm's Political Law practice.
Whitaker joined the firm in 1989 and has served in numerous leadership positions throughout the firm, including on the Associate Committee, the Hiring Committee, the Associate Evaluation Committee and the Partner Compensation Committee. As a partner in the firm's national Real Estate and Land Use practice, Whitaker regularly represents commercial and industrial property owners with land use transactions.
"Laura is a talented lawyer and a dynamic and thoughtful leader," said Bob Giles, firmwide managing partner. "We are confident that she will bring great energy and initiative to her new role and will guide the committee effectively as we work to meet the goals of the firm."
Perkins Coie is committed to the development and advancement of the careers of its women and diverse employees. Whitaker's appointment comes on the heels of other recent appointments of women and diverse professionals within the firm. In October, the firm hired Theresa Cropper as director of diversity and professional development.
"I have always appreciated the many opportunities I have had to grow my career at Perkins Coie," said Whitaker. "I look forward to my work in this new position and to being a part of the ongoing development of the firm and our lawyers."
In addition to her commitment to the firm and her clients, Whitaker is working on a variety of pro bono efforts focused on reducing homelessness and increasing affordable housing in the City of Seattle.
