Perkins Coie Expands Environment, Energy & Resources Practice with the Addition of Glenn Benson
Press Release
Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Glenn Benson has joined the firm as of counsel in the Environment, Energy & Resources (EER) group. He will practice in Perkins Coie's Washington, D.C. office. Benson joins two other recent additions to the EER group - Bill Malley and Al Ferlo, who joined the firm's EER group from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in May.
Benson, who joins the firm from Fulbright & Jaworski, represents natural gas pipeline companies, oil pipeline companies, electrical utilities, shippers on natural gas and oil pipelines, and power marketers in a wide range of regulatory matters before the FERC and the federal courts, including rulemaking proceedings, certificate proceedings, rate proceedings, other tariff-related matters, and jurisdictional determinations. Benson also has substantial experience advising energy companies and financial institutions on federal and state energy regulatory issues that arise in connection with pipeline construction projects, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, pipeline service agreements, interconnections agreements, financing and other commercial transactions. He has nearly 15 years of experience in the industry.
"I am delighted Glenn is joining our Environment, Energy & Resources practice and our Energy industry group," said Tom Lindley, firmwide chair of the national EER practice. "Glenn's presence allows us to support our existing energy clients and expand our energy capabilities and client base across the gas, oil and electricity sectors."
Benson joins a team of more than 45 attorneys focused on environmental and natural resource issues. The team's extensive experience encompasses a full range of environmental and energy issues, and governing statutes. The group works with businesses, financial institutions, trade associations, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and individuals to address environmental issues throughout the United States and abroad.
Benson has held a number of leadership positions at the Energy Bar Association, including chair and vice-chair roles. He also served as business manager of the Energy Law Journal and on the Board of Directors for the publication's foundation.
Benson earned his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law and A.B. from Syracuse University.
