In a recent Washington Post article titled "Relief for Phone Firms Proposed" Perkins Coie Partner Michael Sussmann was quoted regarding a controversial proposal in the House of Representatives to move legal proceedings relating to the government's alleged warrantless surveillance program into secret court sessions, without plaintiff attorneys present. House Democratic leaders suggested this proposal as a compromise for the complete retroactive immunity supported by the Bush administration and the Senate. Sussmann, of the firm's Washington, D.C. office, warns that the proposal "still exposes carriers to huge losses" and fails to address issues of protracted litigation.
D.C. Partner Michael Sussmann was also quoted about provider immunity and amendments to FISA in an article titled, "Democrats to Offer New Surveillance Rules--Bill Aims to Meet Privacy and Security Concerns; Fierce Debate Is Expected" that appeared in the Oct. 7 edition of the Washington Post (registration required to view article).
