Jennifer Understahl is a Real Estate and Business attorney at Perkins Coie focusing on commercial loan workouts, sales and acquisitions, real estate finance and other related transactional matters.

Over the past years, Jennifer has handled all aspects of commercial mortgage-backed securities CMBS specially serviced commercial real estate loans, including loan review, modifications, forbearance agreements, extensions, foreclosure, title and survey and other due diligence review, as well as the disposition of REO properties.  Perkins Coie LLP is one of the top firms in the country handling CMBS workout related transactions, and Jennifer has worked directly with the firm's many special servicer clients on hundreds of CMBS assets in states such as California, Arizona, Washington, Nevada and New Mexico. Her representation in these transactions has involved a wide variety of commercial properties, including retail shopping centers, office complexes, industrial parks, hotels and multi-family buildings.

Additionally, Jennifer has worked extensively handling local and multi-state commercial real estate transactions of all types, including retail and office leasing negotiations, the sale of senior living facilities, office, hotel and raw land sale and acquisitions, joint venture and real estate investment formations, due diligence, and financing matters.

  • Represented CMBS noteholder, by and through special servicer, in modification of a $40 million loan secured by an office complex in Emeryville, California.
  • Represented CMBS noteholder, by and through special servicer, in modification of a $20 million loan secured by a shopping center in Salinas, California.
  • Represented CMBS noteholder, by and through special servicer, in modification of a $2.8 million loan secured by a professional plaza in Durango, Nevada. 
  • Represented CMBS noteholder, by and through special servicer, in modification of a $132.5 million loan secured by a shopping destination in Belmar, Colorado.
  • Represented CMBS noteholder, by and through special servicer, in discounted payoff of a $2.6 million loan secured by a hotel in Torrance, California.
  • Represented CMBS noteholder, by and through special servicer, in discounted payoff of a $55 million loan secured by a town center in Santa Ana, California.
