Joel W. Nomkin Appointed Office Managing Partner of Perkins Coie Brown & Bain

Press Release

PHOENIX (September 1, 2005) – Perkins Coie announced today that its Executive Committee has appointed Joel W. Nomkin to succeed Joseph E. Mais as managing partner of the Phoenix office effective September 1, 2005.

Nomkin joined Brown & Bain in 1987. His practice focuses on complex commercial and appellate litigation, and he chairs the firmwide Appellate Practice Group. Nomkin also served on Perkins Coie's Executive Committee. Before joining Brown & Bain, Nomkin served in the United States Department of Justice, first as a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division, and then in the Appellate Staff of the Civil Division.

"Joel is not only a talented litigator, but he has also worked extensively on office management issues in recent years and was an obvious choice to succeed Joe Mais," said Robert Giles, Managing Partner of Perkins Coie. "I am sure he will do a great job. His selection was based on a strong consensus of the Phoenix partners."

Mais, who became Managing Partner of what was then Brown & Bain on October 1, 1995, guided the firm through the merger with Perkins Coie on July 1, 2004. Mais will continue to serve on the Perkins Coie Firmwide Management Committee, as well as the Policy and Executive Committees, and will devote more time to his business litigation and securities litigation practice.
