U.S. District Judge Milton Shadur has received backlash for sentencing former alderman Edward Vrdolyak, who pleaded guilty to scheming with a corrupt trustee of Rosalind Franklin University on a devious real estate transaction, to probation in lieu of jail time. Vrdolyak’s so called “slap on the wrist” surprised many and has had some questioning Shadur’s judgment. “He obviously showed here he doesn’t always agree with the government,” former prosecuting attorney and Perkins Coie Of Counsel Joel Levin was quoted saying in a recent Chicago Tribune article. “[Shadur] will do what he thinks is legally right and let the chips fall where they may.”
