Partner Al Gidari was quoted in a post on CNET about how a coalition of companies, including Google and Microsoft, are partnering with advocacy groups in a push to reform federal privacy laws to protect mobile and cloud computing users. The group hopes to convince Congress to update the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, which was written in 1986, so that police are required to obtain search warrants to access private communications or the locations of mobile devices, which doesn't always happen under the current law. "There have been dozens of cases in the last year or so where the police have asked wireless companies for logs of which cell phones contacted a tower at a specific time," Gidari was noted as saying.
