Civil Litigator Julia Markley has dedicated her career to advocating on behalf of her clients. Her experience includes 20 years representing businesses in disputes involving trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, patents, non-disclosure agreements, licenses, contracts, and other business issues. A skilled appellate lawyer, Julia also represents clients in cases raising contractual, constitutional, arbitration, tax, and permitting issues. From 2016 - 2020, she served on Perkins Coie’s Executive Committee, the governing body of the firm.
Representative of Julia’s IP litigation counsel is her defense of an e-tailer accused of trademark and copyright infringement, in which her winning argument raised cutting-edge issues related to the liability of parties that never have contact with the product. Additionally, Julia has successfully enforced an executive severance agreement for an investment bank at arbitration; managed the enforcement of a nationwide class action settlement agreement of products liability claims on behalf of a forest products company; and defended several class actions involving consumer protection and wage-and-hour claims.
Julia brings the drive, teamwork, and composure developed as a two-sport collegiate athlete to her law practice to deliver high-value service to her clients. She works with clients across a range of industries, such as technology, communications, medical device, construction, energy, mining, manufacturing, food, and retail.
Leadership and Judiciary Committees
Julia is a widely recognized leader among Oregon’s legal professionals. She is the founding president of two affinity bars, the Oregon Filipino American Lawyers Association (2017) and the Oregon Asian Pacific American Bar Association (2009). She has served on the Judicial Selection Committee for the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, led by Sen. Ron Wyden and Sen. Jeff Merkley. Julia has also sat on advisory panels for the selection of Oregon state courts judges. In 2019, she received the Daniel K. Inouye Trailblazer Award, the highest honor of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
