Overview

Perkins Coie's Intellectual Property litigators have deep experience handling a broad range of copyright cases, covering works as varied as plays, music, art, games, software, and semiconductor microcode. Our clients range from individual artists to publicly-traded companies known throughout the world. We counsel and represent these clients in established and emerging issues in copyright law, assisting them to protect their rights and defend themselves against allegations of infringement.

The following are examples of some recent cases:

  • We have represented Blue Nile in a number of copyright infringement actions related to diamond photographs, including Blue Nile, Inc. v. Szul Jewelry, Inc., U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.

  • In Chihuly, Inc. v. Rubino, et. al., U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, we represented plaintiff Chihuly, Inc. and Dale Chihuly in a major case involving copyright, trademark, trade dress, unfair competition and copyright ownership. The case settled.

  • In Corbis Corp. v. Amazon.com, Inc., U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, we defended Amazon.com in a case involving copyright infringement claims and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), as well as trademark infringement claims related to celebrity portraiture photographs. We obtained successful summary judgment disposition.
