Summer Program

  |

Overview

Perkins Coie's summer associate program provides wide-ranging work opportunities and social events designed to promote interaction between fellow summer associates, attorneys and staff who  have chosen to pursue their careers here. Our summer associate program is our primary source of new associate hires and focuses primarily on second-year and pre-clerkship third-year law students.

We also sponsor a 1L Diversity Fellowship program designed for first-year law students of diverse backgrounds. The program provides an academic scholarship and a paid clerkship during the summer immediately following the completion of a student's first year of law school.

Some of the highlights of our summer program include:

  • Work Assignments. Challenging legal work assignments are similar to those given to associates. Review and feedback are provided at the conclusion of an assignment.
  • Pro Bono Work. Summer associates are strongly encouraged to work on pro bono projects, such as guardian ad litem trials, which can provide the opportunity for client contact and court experience. Our pro bono coordinator provides many opportunities for pro bono work and training throughout the summer.
  • Face Time with Clients. We encourage our attorneys to invite summer associates to attend depositions, mediations, closings, client meetings, trials and other business activities.
  • Luncheons and Firm Meetings. We offer a series of presentations that provide opportunities to learn more about our different practice areas. We also schedule luncheons with local judges and practitioners and with in-house counsel from clients.
  • Management Committee Presentation. Our Management Committee presents a program on the firm's management, finances, associate and partner compensation, corporate philosophy and future direction.
In addition to the highlights above, each office offers a summer program designed to give summer associates the opportunity to learn more about what it's like to work in that office. View the page of the office in which you are interested to learn more about its summer program.

Firm Culture and Overview

We believe that diversity of thought and experience will enrich our dynamic work atmosphere. We have created a company culture that is based on collaboration, devotion to serving our clients and mutual respect. New employees are integrated into the firm through our extensive orientation, new user training and mentorship programs. We are committed to a fair and equitable workplace where each person is a valued member of the team.

Perkins Coie is highly rated for the quality of its client service. This strength stems from two key factors: a strong emphasis on service that starts at the top of the firm and permeates throughout, and an extremely collegial culture that emphasizes collaboration in support of client needs. We have been named as one of FORTUNE magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" for the eighth consecutive year!
