Bates has litigated regularly in state and federal courts in Illinois and throughout the Midwest.

Bates has represented attorneys from Am Law 100 and 200 firms in professional liability and responsibility matters. She has defended attorneys in legal malpractice litigation in trial and appellate courts, including a three-week jury trial of shareholder claims, and the defense of more than 30 consolidated cases, which were all heard in Cook County, Illinois. Commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) loan workouts are an additional area in which Bates has extensive experience. She has prosecuted foreclosure actions for commercial properties ranging from hotels, office buildings, and shopping centers to sports complexes and multiunit residential complexes. She has successfully petitioned for the appointment of dozens of receivers, has prosecuted claims for breach of guaranties, and has defended against lender liability claims.
