Overview

Meredith Weinberg, chair of the firm’s nationwide Environment & Natural Resources practice, is an experienced trial attorney who represents corporate and municipal clients involved in multiparty cleanup litigation under CERCLA and Washington’s MTCA, Clean Water Act Section 404 permitting and stormwater matters, Safe Drinking Water Act enforcement cases, and state and federal tribal disputes. She also counsels clients on environmental regulations and compliance, including due diligence in support of real estate transactions.

Meredith also speaks and writes regularly on Clean Water Act issues, focusing especially on Section 404 permitting. For instance, she is the author of a chapter on wetlands enforcement in the recently published Wetlands Book and the co-author of a chapter on regulation of wetlands and other waters in the American Bar Association’s Oceans and Coastal Law and Policy.

Meredith’s strong environmental experience is based in part on her prior government service at the Department of Justice, where she tried several multimillion-dollar cases involving CERCLA claims brought against the U.S. Department of Defense. Her litigation matters there also included RCRA matters; Section 404 enforcement cases; defending administrative record matters brought against federal agencies, including EPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and defending military installations against CWA stormwater citizen suits. Prior to her government work, Meredith represented private sector clients in toxic tort litigation matters and conducted numerous environmental audits.
