CHICAGO, Ill. (July 8, 2014) - Perkins Coie announces with sadness the death of colleague, partner and friend Matthew F. Carmody on July 1, 2014, age 40.

Matthew was a partner in Perkins Coie’s Commercial Litigation practice. His work focused on intellectual property, financial services, licensing and other varieties of business litigation. He also represented clients in large-scale shareholder and consumer class actions. Matthew handled cases from the trial court through the appellate level and achieved significant dispositive victories on behalf of his clients before state and federal courts throughout the United States.

Matthew was actively involved in charitable affairs, and received an attorney pro bono award in 2003 from an international law firm for his work on behalf of disadvantaged members of the community. He received the Washington D.C. Lawyers' Committee For Civil Rights and Urban Affairs Outstanding Achievement Award in connection with his participation in major, national civil rights litigation deemed to be “one of the finest examples civil rights advocacy in the Committee's history.”

Matthew was greatly respected and admired by friends and colleagues. He will be missed by all.
