Julie E. Schwartz Partner

Julie Schwartz focuses her practice on privacy litigation for internet, technology, and social media companies. She routinely litigates disputes arising under the Stored Communications Act, the Communications Decency Act, the First Amendment, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and other federal and state privacy laws. She also handles class action litigation relating to alleged violations of privacy rights and other laws.

In addition, Julie helps manage the firm’s Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) compliance group. In particular, she leads teams that counsel service providers on data security issues and third-party requests for information, both in the civil and criminal defense context. She also manages teams that handle third-party requests for information in the corporate records context. She frequently appears in state and federal courts in California and throughout the country to argue issues stemming from these requests for service providers. She has deep knowledge in California law as it applies to nonparty discovery.

Separately, Julie maintains an active California Proposition 65 law (Prop 65) compliance and dispute resolution practice. She has successfully resolved numerous Prop 65 disputes for clients in the consumer product space, including obtaining withdrawal of 60-day notices issued to clients.

Julie was named in the Daily Journal's "Top 40 Under 40" list in 2018, and she was listed as a “Northern California Rising Stars” by Super Lawyers magazine from 2012 to 2018.
