Overview

Litigator Alec Farr represents clients in a range of complex commercial, class action, and intellectual property (IP) disputes. As counsel to corporations, major nonprofits, and financial institutions, he has tried cases, argued appeals, and conducted arbitrations in matters involving claims of breach of contract, fraud, corporate disparagement, negligence, and unfair competition. Alec has defended corporations, financial institutions, and nonprofits in class actions alleging violations of consumer protection and antitrust statutes in multiple state and federal courts. His experience also includes trade secret, copyright, trademark, and patent infringement litigation in such industries as financial services, telecommunications, information technology, entertainment, sustainable energy, and pharmaceuticals.

Alec has extensive experience advising clients and litigating matters involving noncompete, nondisclosure, and nonsolicitation agreements. He also has handled shareholder class actions and derivative litigation, change-of-control cases, and litigation involving allegations of director and officer misconduct. He assists financial institutions in matters concerning alleged fraudulent lending practices, inadequate loan origination disclosures, improper account management procedures, and violations of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), and state consumer protection statutes.

An experienced trial lawyer with a commitment to civil rights, Alec has a long history of litigating public interest cases, including representing veterans in litigation under Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and voters alleging violations of the Voting Rights Act and U.S. Constitution in redistricting, election administration, and voter access matters.

Active in the bar and his community, Alec is president of the William B. Bryant American Inn of Court and serves on the boards of directors for the Council for Court Excellence and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
